Wow...what a ride!
The London Eye was erected for the Millennium celebration. It was designed by a husband/wife architectural team, is 443 feet high, rotates once every half hour and goes slowly enough that visitors may get on without stopping the rotation.
It's located in Jubilee Gardens which is along the river and filled with street performers. It was lots of fun!
We arrived early (after yet another pub lunch) since, of course, we wanted to take photos. We spent a half hour or so photographing and enjoying the party atmosphere before we got in line. The line moved steadily and soon we boarded our egg-shaped capsule and were off! The capsules are large and designed to hold 25 people. Since it moves so slowly (I think about 1/2 mile per hour) I didn't feel any movement while riding and enjoyed walking around and seeing the sights from a different perspective...and take more pictures!
The children in our capsule were quite excited, jumping around, playing and not at all hesitant to lean right into the glass to get a better view.
It was a unique, fun and exciting experience and one I'd been anticipating since we'd arrived in London. I'm glad we went! With the highlight of the day over, we started walking back to our tube stop.....but couldn't stop looking back at this huge wheel and taking just one more shot.
