Photos to come...
Bayonne is located in the very SouthWest corner of France...where France, Spain and the Atlantic meet. There are several towns along the coast, in both France and Spain, that appeal to vacationers due to their beautiful beaches (with world class surfing) and upscale resorts, Biarritz and San Sebastien to name a couple.
There's also a lot of history in this area since kings, emperors and their spouses apparently enjoyed the region many years ago as well. Homes (castles) that they had built here still stand.
I didn't delve into the history as much here, but mainly enjoyed the gorgeous environment. My host in Bayonne was kind enough to walk me along a good section of the beach and then drive me along narrow, winding roads that skirted the water through Biarritz. The views were outstanding.
One of my highs was photographing a sunSET over the Atlantic. Technically it's the Bay of Biscay off the coast here but it opens to the Atlantic...good enough for me! Being a East Coast, USA resident all my life, the ocean has always meant sunRISES to me and, for some reason, seeing the sun set over the ocean was a big deal. Now I am complete! :)
